SP-Congress Alliance to Contest 2027 UP Polls Together, Says Shivpal Yadav
Samajwadi Party national general secretary Shivpal Singh Yadav on Wednesday said the SP-Congress alliance will contest the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections together, asserting that the alliance will form a full-majority government under the leadership of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav.
Speaking to reporters, Yadav said the alliance remained intact and expressed confidence that the Samajwadi Party would return to power in the state with a clear mandate. “The SP-Congress alliance will contest the 2027 elections together. Under the leadership of Akhilesh Yadav, the SP will form a government with a full majority,” he said.
Yadav, however, said the party had not yet unveiled its detailed electoral strategy. He added that the SP’s election plans would be announced at an appropriate time, suggesting that preparations for the crucial Assembly contest were still underway.
Taking aim at the BJP, Yadav alleged that the ruling party was attempting to weaken the Opposition. Referring to the FIR registered against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Uttarakhand, he accused the BJP of seeking to “eliminate” political opposition.
Yadav also criticised the BJP over its alleged use of AI-generated videos targeting SP leaders. He claimed the BJP had initiated the practice, while the SP had only “reacted to the action”.
On the issue of development, Yadav alleged corruption under the BJP government and pointed to the condition of roads and potholes on expressways as evidence contradicting its development claims.
He also took a swipe at Uttar Pradesh minister and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party leader Om Prakash Rajbhar over his recent remarks against the BJP. Yadav said Rajbhar’s earlier statements against the BJP while being aligned with the SP were “all on record”.
Yadav was in Etah to meet former SP MLA Rameshwar Singh Yadav, who is recovering after a lung transplant, and to offer condolences to the family of SP leader Sharafat Hussain alias Kale following the death of his father, Haji Abdul Aziz.
