Marking the fulfillment of a long-standing demand, the Centre has formally notified the creation of the South Coast Railway Zone with Visakhapatnam as its headquarters. Andhra Pradesh Roads and Buildings Minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy described the development as a landmark moment, announcing that the zone will begin functioning from June 1, 2026 .

The minister conveyed his appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for approving the proposal in the state’s interest.
