Soldier found dead at Army camp in Jammu

A 24-year-old Army soldier allegedly died by suicide at an Army camp in Jammu, officials said on Thursday.

The deceased, an Agniveer from Uttar Pradesh, was on guard duty at the Nagrota garrison when he allegedly shot himself with his service rifle around midnight on Wednesday. He died on the spot, officials said.

The body was shifted to the Government Medical College hospital for post-mortem examination.

The reason behind the soldier’s death is yet to be ascertained. Police have initiated inquest proceedings, and further investigation is underway, officials added.
