Social Media Accounts Under Scanner In Bandi Sanjay’s Son POCSO Case
Hyderabad Police have initiated strict action against those who revealed the identity of the victim and her parents on social media in connection with the POCSO case registered against Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar’s son. Cases have been registered at the Pet-Basheerabad Police Station against social media users who allegedly shared the victim’s photographs, videos, and other personal information in violation of legal provisions.
Police said the action was taken based on a complaint lodged by the Chairperson of the Medchal-Malkajgiri District Child Welfare Committee . Cases have been booked against the accused under relevant sections of the Juvenile Justice Act and the POCSO Act . Officials clarified that disclosing the identity of a victim is a punishable offence under the law.
According to the police, the social media accounts, IDs, and related URLs involved in circulating the content have already been identified. Pet-Basheerabad SHO stated that the details have been forwarded to the concerned technical departments to trace the individuals operating those accounts. He said the accused would soon be identified and produced before the court.
Police warned that revealing the identity of minor victims or their family members in POCSO cases could cause severe mental trauma. They stated that such actions not only violate the privacy of victims but could also seriously affect their future, which is why the law treats such violations as a grave offence.
It may be recalled that a POCSO case was registered last week against Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar’s son over allegations of harassing a minor girl. However, the accused denied the allegations and filed a counter-complaint, alleging that the girl and her parents were threatening him and attempting to extort money.
Police are currently conducting a detailed investigation into both aspects of the case. Meanwhile, authorities said they are closely monitoring misleading campaigns and posts on social media that disclose the victim’s identity while the investigation is underway. In a press release, police warned that no one violating the law through such posts would be spared and that stringent action would be taken against offenders.
