In a major push towards technology-driven policing, the Hyderabad City Police has introduced an advanced artificial intelligence-based surveillance platform named SOC Eye to monitor social media activity and identify potential threats to public order. The new system, developed by the department’s IT wing, is designed to track hate campaigns, misinformation, cyber harassment, and other suspicious online activities that could disturb peace in the city.

Speaking about the initiative, C. V. Anand , Director General of Police (DGP), Telangana , said the adoption of advanced AI technology would reduce the workload on police personnel while bringing transformative changes to crime prevention and cyber intelligence operations. He stressed that the police department remains committed to protecting women and children while taking strict action against forces attempting to spread unrest through digital platforms. Recent reports confirmed that C. V. Anand officially took charge as the new Telangana DGP earlier this month.

Short for Social Observation and Cyber Intelligence , SOC Eye marks a significant shift from conventional manual monitoring methods that required extensive manpower and continuous tracking of online platforms. Officials say the AI-powered system can now automate much of the surveillance process, enabling round-the-clock monitoring and faster response mechanisms.

At the heart of the platform is an Integrated Intelligent Dashboard , which consolidates real-time information from multiple sources, including Dial 100 emergency calls, internal intelligence alerts, and updates on major incidents across Hyderabad. Senior police officers can use the dashboard to assess ground situations instantly and coordinate field responses more effectively during sensitive situations.

The system has already demonstrated its capabilities during the pilot phase. During the recent Puranapool X Road incident , SOC Eye reportedly identified 85 hate-related and communally sensitive posts circulating on social media platforms. It also traced 126 controversial posts shared across multiple accounts, helping authorities intervene quickly and prevent tensions from escalating further.

Police officials said the AI platform also gives special attention to women’s safety and drug-related crimes . Its intelligent models can automatically detect content linked to cyberbullying, stalking, and child sexual abuse material, while classifying posts into high, medium, and low-risk categories. Objectionable content can then be reported directly to social media companies for removal.

The platform additionally includes network analysis tools that help investigators identify users repeatedly amplifying provocative content online. Complaints received through social media channels are assigned a unique tracking number for end-to-end monitoring until resolution.

To strengthen preventive policing, the platform features event-based monitoring tools that track keywords related to protests, rallies, and religious processions taking place in the city. Investigators believe the integration of digital intelligence and cyber investigation tools will significantly improve the handling of online crime cases and the collection of digital evidence.
