Smriti Mandhana's wedding postponed indefinitely amid father’s health scare

Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana’s wedding with singer and music composer Palaash Muchhal has been postponed indefinitely after her father, Shrinivas Mandhana, experienced symptoms of a heart attack on Sunday. The wedding was scheduled to take place in Sangli, Maharashtra, but was called off.

Shrinivas Mandhana was shifted to Sarvhit Hospital and Medical Research Centre in Sangli in the morning after he complained of left-sided chest pain. Dr Naman Shah, Director of Sarvhit Hospital, confirmed that he showed symptoms consistent with a heart-related issue and is currently under observation.

Speaking to the media, Dr Naman Shah said that Shrinivas Mandhana experienced chest pain around 11:30 am and was immediately transferred for further medical assessment. He stated that although there were slightly raised cardiac enzyme levels, there were no fresh findings in the echocardiogram. He added that continuous ECG monitoring would be required and angiography may be considered if necessary. According to the doctor, the condition could be linked to physical or mental stress due to the hectic nature of the ongoing wedding preparations. His blood pressure was also reported to be slightly elevated, necessitating regular monitoring.

Smriti Mandhana’s manager, Tuhin Mishra, confirmed that the wedding has been postponed indefinitely. Speaking to the media, Mishra said that Smriti is very clear about wanting her father to recover fully before proceeding with the wedding and that there is no immediate plan to fix a new date.

Earlier, glimpses from Smriti Mandhana’s pre-wedding celebrations had gone viral on social media. Several pictures and videos shared by friends and family showed the couple taking part in traditional rituals, which drew enthusiastic reactions from fans. In one of the widely shared clips, Smriti Mandhana and Palaash Muchhal were seen dancing to the Bollywood song “Tenu Leke” during what appeared to be their sangeet ceremony.

Indian cricketer Shafali Verma also shared a video from the performance, capturing the couple’s playful dance moments as the guests cheered loudly in the background.

The wedding was expected to be a private affair with only close friends and family in attendance. It is also noteworthy that the celebrations were planned shortly after the Indian women’s cricket team’s World Cup victory. However, given the current medical situation, the family has chosen to delay the ceremony until Shrinivas Mandhana’s condition stabilises.
