Smriti Mandhana, Palash Muchhal call off wedding, say ‘time to move forward’

Indian cricket star Smriti Mandhana has confirmed that her wedding with music composer Palash Muchhal has been called off, urging fans and the media to respect their privacy.

Addressing the public for the first time amid widespread speculation, Mandhana said, “Over the past few weeks there has been plenty of speculation around my life and I feel it is important for me to speak out at this time. I am a very private person and I would like to keep it that way, but I need to clarify that the wedding is called off.”

The vice-captain of the Indian women’s cricket team emphasized that her focus remains on representing the country at the highest level. “I believe there is a higher purpose driving us all and for me that has always been representing my country. I hope to continue to play and win trophies for India for as long as possible, and that is where my focus will forever be. Thank you for all your support. It’s time to move forward,” she added.

Soon after Mandhana’s statement, Palash Muchhal also released a note, confirming that he is moving on and warning against the circulation of false content about him online. “It has been very difficult to see people react so easily to baseless rumours about something which has been most sacred to me. My team will be taking strict legal action against those spreading false and defamatory content,” he said.

Reports suggest the wedding, initially scheduled for November 23, was postponed due to health emergencies in both families, Mandhana’s father fell ill on the day, and Palash was later hospitalized due to stress. With both families facing simultaneous crises, the couple mutually decided to call off the celebrations.

Smriti and Palash had gotten engaged after the composer surprised her with a proposal at DY Patil Stadium, the venue that hosted the Women’s World Cup final. However, rumours surrounding the relationship gained traction soon after, amplified by Mandhana removing all wedding-related posts from her social media and her subsequent withdrawal from the Women’s Big Bash League.

The wedding news had captivated fans across India, and now both appear determined to move forward with their personal and professional lives.
