Slow Over-Rate Costs Pat Cummins ₹12 Lakh In IPL Clash
Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins was handed a ₹12 lakh fine for maintaining a slow over-rate during his team’s IPL clash against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday night.
The penalty came as another setback in what turned out to be a forgettable evening for Hyderabad, who suffered a crushing 82-run defeat against the Titans in one of their poorest performances of the season.
According to an official IPL statement, the punishment was imposed under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct , which deals with minimum over-rate offences. Since it was SRH’s first over-rate violation of the season , Cummins received the standard fine of ₹12 lakh.
The Australian pacer, who has led Hyderabad with calmness and aggression throughout the tournament, could do little as his side completely collapsed during the run chase.
After Gujarat Titans posted a competitive 168 for 5 , SRH’s batting line-up failed to show resistance and was bundled out for just 86 runs in 14.5 overs . The dramatic collapse shocked fans and left Hyderabad struggling to find momentum at a crucial stage of the competition.
The Titans dominated the contest in every department, with their bowlers dismantling Hyderabad’s batting order through disciplined pace and relentless pressure. SRH never looked settled during the chase, losing wickets regularly and failing to build any meaningful partnership.
For Cummins and Sunrisers Hyderabad, the defeat was damaging enough on its own. The over-rate penalty only added to the disappointment of a night the franchise would want to forget quickly as the IPL season enters its decisive phase.
