Former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu has said that the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) will not diminish the importance of skilled trades, asserting that professionals such as air-conditioner technicians, electricians, and plumbers will continue to be indispensable in the years ahead.

Interacting with trainees undergoing vocational skill development programmes at the Swarna Bharat Trust campus in Atkur near Vijayawada on Friday, Naidu highlighted the growing value of practical skills in an evolving job market. He encouraged young people who may not have had the opportunity to pursue higher education to build successful and self-reliant careers through vocational training.

Naidu praised the Trust for providing training free of cost along with accommodation and meals, and commended Managing Trustee Deepa Venkat for supporting youth empowerment through skill development initiatives.

Addressing the trainees, he also reflected on the period of the Emergency imposed in 1975 , describing it as a time when democratic values came under severe strain. He stressed the importance of educating younger generations about that chapter in India's history and the need to remain vigilant in safeguarding democratic institutions.

Emphasising the balance between rights and responsibilities, Naidu said true patriotism lies in performing one’s duties sincerely and contributing positively to society. He urged citizens to recognise that national progress depends not only on claiming rights but also on fulfilling civic responsibilities.

The former Vice President cautioned against confusing freedom with unchecked behaviour, expressing concern over the growing prevalence of substance abuse among some sections of the youth. He said the misuse of freedom has led many young people towards harmful addictions, including narcotics and other intoxicants, which pose a serious threat to individuals and society.

Calling on young people to lead disciplined and responsible lives, Naidu urged them to stay away from drugs and other harmful habits, bring pride to their families, and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s development.

He also appealed to citizens to actively participate in the vision of a "Viksit Bharat" , stating that collective effort and commitment would be essential for building a stronger and more prosperous India.
