Six Women Killed, Eight Injured After Bus Rams Van In Gujarat’s Sabarkantha

Six women were killed and eight persons injured after a speeding private bus rammed into a van carrying a group of women on National Highway 48 in Gujarat’s Sabarkantha district on Wednesday, police said.

The accident occurred near Jasvantgadh Patiya close to Himmatnagar on the busy highway stretch connecting Shamlaji and Himmatnagar . According to officials, the bus struck the van from behind, causing severe damage to the vehicle and leaving several passengers trapped inside.

Police said the van was transporting a group of women from Modasa in neighbouring Aravalli district to Hunj village near Himmatnagar , where they were scheduled to work at a social function. The passengers were members of a catering team that provides services at community events , and were travelling together when the accident took place.

Deputy Superintendent of Police A K Patel confirmed that six women travelling in the van died due to the impact of the collision . Emergency services and police teams rushed to the scene and carried out a rescue operation to pull out the injured and clear the wreckage from the road.

Eight others — including six women, a man and the van driver — sustained injuries in the crash. The victims were shifted to Himmatnagar Civil Hospital for treatment. Hospital authorities said two of the injured remain in critical condition and are under close medical supervision.

Medical officer Dr Dhrupad Chauhan confirmed that the injured are being treated at the hospital while the bodies of the deceased were sent for postmortem examination as part of legal procedures.

Preliminary findings suggest that overspeeding by the private bus may have contributed to the crash , though police said the exact cause will be established after a detailed investigation.

Authorities have registered a case and begun a probe into the incident, including the role of the bus driver and other circumstances that may have led to the fatal collision.
