Six killed as wedding bus collides with truck in UP’s Hapur

At least six people were killed and seven others injured when a bus carrying wedding guests collided head-on with a truck on the Dhaulana–Gulawathi road in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district in the early hours of Monday, police said. The accident occurred in the Dhaulana police station area while the group was returning after attending a marriage ceremony.

According to officials, the collision took place around 3 am when the bus carrying members of a wedding procession was heading back towards Dasna in Ghaziabad after the ceremony in Gulawathi in Bulandshahr district . The bus reportedly had around 12 to 13 passengers on board .

The impact of the crash was extremely severe , leaving the front portion of the bus completely mangled . The bus became trapped beneath the truck and both vehicles overturned into a roadside ditch , causing panic among passengers and bystanders. Several people were pinned inside the wreckage.

Local residents rushed to the spot and helped police and rescue teams pull out those trapped inside the damaged vehicle. Authorities used emergency equipment and ambulances to carry out rescue operations while crowds gathered at the accident site, temporarily disrupting traffic on the road.

The injured were shifted to Hapur Medical College , a community health centre in Dhaulana , and other nearby hospitals. Officials said some of the injured remain in critical condition , and doctors are monitoring them closely.

Police confirmed that six people died on the spot , including the groom’s father Yunus Qureshi and bus driver Ashok , while the identities of some other victims were still being verified. Most of the passengers were reportedly residents of Dasna in Ghaziabad .

Superintendent of Police Kunwar Gyananjay Singh said police teams reached the site soon after receiving information about the crash and launched rescue operations. The damaged vehicles were later removed from the road and traffic movement was restored .

Authorities have initiated legal proceedings and are investigating the exact circumstances that led to the accident.
