Qatar has confirmed six people killed and one still missing after a military helicopter crashed in the country’s territorial waters in the Persian Gulf , with government officials describing the incident in their own words as they continue operations. The Interior Ministry said in a statement that authorities have “confirmed the deaths of six individuals” and that “ search efforts continue for the remaining missing person ,” after the aircraft went down on Saturday.

In a direct breakdown of events, the Defence Ministry said the helicopter went down during what it described as a “routine duty flight,” and that preliminary findings point to a “technical malfunction” as the cause of the crash rather than any hostile action or external interference. The ministry statement said: “The aircraft experienced a technical issue mid‑flight, and an immediate search and rescue operation was launched to locate the crew and passengers.”

Qatar’s official releases so far have not publicly named the victims or specified their roles, and they have not clarified whether those on board were all military personnel or included civilian contractors. Amid broader regional military cooperation, reports from multiple outlets indicate that closely allied personnel may have been among those aboard, although Doha’s formal statements have focused on confirming the incident and its aftermath.

Specialised search and rescue teams from Qatar’s Interior Ministry and other security services have been deployed to the crash zone in an effort to recover the missing individual and secure wreckage that might shed more light on what caused the malfunction. Officials stressed that the accident took place during routine operations, underlining the hazards associated with military aviation even in non‑combat circumstances.

The authorities said further details, including any formal investigation findings and information on the victims’ identities, will be released once available and after families have been notified.
