Six held in Amritsar for links with Pakistan based smugglers, arms and heroin seized

Punjab Police have uncovered a suspected cross border arms and drug smuggling network operating near the Indo Pak border , arresting six persons allegedly linked with Pakistan based smugglers. The arrests were made during an operation by Amritsar police, which also led to the recovery of illegal weapons and narcotics.

According to Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav , the police seized six sophisticated pistols, 60 live cartridges and around 3.51 kilograms of heroin from the accused. The recovery points to the presence of an organised network attempting to smuggle arms and drugs into India through border routes .

Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused were in contact with Pakistan based smugglers and were facilitating the movement of weapons and narcotics in areas close to the border. Police believe the group was operating under the direction of a cross border handler , suggesting that the operation could be part of a larger organised smuggling module .

Officials said such networks often rely on local operatives to receive and distribute contraband sent from across the border. Border districts in Punjab, including Amritsar, have witnessed several attempts in recent years to smuggle drugs and arms using covert routes and intermediaries .

Police have not yet disclosed the identities of the accused , stating that details will be revealed after further interrogation as investigators work to trace the wider cross border smuggling network .

Authorities have launched a detailed probe to identify both the supply chain and the distribution links of the racket, while efforts are underway to dismantle the entire network and trace the handlers coordinating the operation from across the border.
