Six Guarantees Trigger Heated Showdown in Telangana Assembly
The Telangana Assembly witnessed a sharp political confrontation on Tuesday as the ruling Congress and opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) clashed over the implementation of the government’s flagship six guarantees . The debate, held during the Governor’s address , evolved into a wider discussion on governance, financial discipline, and credibility of election promises.
Leading the attack, BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) accused the Congress government of failing to fulfil key assurances. He said major promises including ₹2,500 monthly financial assistance to women, unemployment allowance , and enhanced social security pensions —have not been implemented. In a sharp criticism, he alleged that the ruling party had misled voters during the elections.
KTR also raised concerns over transparency, claiming that an important file related to granting legal status to the guarantees had gone missing despite being approved by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy . Terming it suspicious, he demanded a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe. He further challenged the government to prove its claim that each household would receive ₹2.5 lakh in annual benefits.
Highlighting fiscal concerns, KTR argued that the scale of welfare promises could strain the state’s finances. He issued a challenge, stating he would resign if the government could prove that ₹57,000 crore in interest-free loans had been provided to women’s self-help groups .
Responding strongly, Panchayat Raj Minister Danasari Anasuya (Seethakka) said that ₹57,000 crore in loans had been extended through the Streenidhi Credit Cooperative Federation , aimed at strengthening women economically. She accused the opposition of spreading misinformation and emphasised the government’s focus on financial empowerment of women.
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka highlighted progress under the Indiramma housing scheme , stating that 4.5 lakh houses are being constructed with an allocation of ₹22,500 crore, with ₹5 lakh assistance per unit. He said the programme ensures fair distribution across constituencies.
On agriculture, the government pointed to the Rythu Bharosa scheme, under which ₹9,000 crore was credited to farmers within nine days. With additional crop incentives, officials said farmers could earn up to ₹25,000 per acre, improving rural incomes.
Ministers also criticised the previous BRS government , alleging that several promises such as large-scale housing, land distribution, and employment guarantees were not fulfilled. Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said the earlier administration failed to issue new ration cards, while the current government has expanded coverage and improved food grain quality.
The heated debate reflects a broader political contest over welfare delivery, financial sustainability, and governance performance. With public expectations rising, the implementation of the six guarantees is likely to remain a key political benchmark in Telangana.
