Six Dead After Family’s Bolero Plunges Into Gorge on Uttarakhand Road

Six members of a family were killed and a 16-year-old boy was injured after the Bolero they were travelling in plunged into a deep gorge along the Devprayag-Pauri road in Uttarakhand’s Pauri district on Friday, police said.

The accident occurred near the dumping zone in the Devprayag area. According to officials, the family was travelling from the Laksar area of Haridwar district when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle. The Bolero veered off the road and fell into the deep gorge, resulting in multiple fatalities.

Seven members of the family were travelling in the vehicle at the time of the accident. After receiving information about the mishap, police and personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) launched a rescue operation at the site.

Six bodies were recovered from the gorge, including those of a woman and a three-year-old girl. The deceased were identified as Afzal, 49, his brother Gufran, 34, Afzal’s wife Sabbu, 40, daughter Anamia, 3, and sons Aman, 14, and Arman, 20.

Afzal’s 16-year-old son Arham was the lone survivor. He was found injured and was taken to hospital by local residents for treatment.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief over the loss of lives and directed officials to ensure that the injured teenager receives prompt medical attention. He also instructed authorities to airlift Arham to a higher medical centre if required.

The exact circumstances leading to the driver losing control of the vehicle are being ascertained.
