Six arrested in Manipur for attempting to snatch police weapons amid curfew enforcement

Six persons have been arrested in Manipur for allegedly attempting to snatch weapons from police personnel and violating a curfew imposed in the aftermath of heightened security tensions following a recent bomb blast in Bishnupur district, police said on Friday.

The incident comes amid an already volatile security situation in Manipur , where sporadic violence and unrest have continued to challenge law enforcement efforts in several districts. Authorities have imposed restrictions in sensitive areas, including curfews, to prevent further escalation and maintain public order following the blast incident.

According to police, the arrested individuals allegedly turned violent during enforcement of curfew measures at Ahallup Makha Leikai under the Heingang police station limits on Thursday. The group is said to have assaulted on-duty personnel and attempted to forcibly take weapons from police officers deployed in the area.

Police identified the accused as Yangoijam Borish Singh (23), Mangsatabam David Singh (21), Pangambam Nivash Meitei (22), Laitonjam Romen Singh (22), Phairenjam Tony (21), and Ningthoujam Denish Singh (22).

Officials said security forces acted swiftly to bring the situation under control and arrested all six individuals from the spot. They have been booked for violations related to curfew enforcement, obstruction of public servants, and alleged attempt to disarm police personnel.

The arrested persons were taken into custody and are being interrogated to determine whether the incident was pre-planned or carried out in the heat of the moment. Further legal proceedings are expected following initial investigation findings.

Security has been tightened across vulnerable pockets of the state, with police maintaining heightened vigilance in view of the sensitive law and order situation in Manipur after the blast in Bishnupur district. Officials have urged citizens to cooperate with restrictions and avoid activities that could further disturb peace in the region.
