Six accused arrested in Amritsar police station grenade attack case
In a significant development, Punjab Police have arrested six accused in connection with the grenade attack on the Bhindi Saida police station in Amritsar district, which occurred on the intervening night of March 29–30, 2026 . Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
According to Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav , the arrests were made in a joint operation by the Amritsar Rural Police and Faridkot Police. During the operation, authorities also recovered two pistols from the possession of the accused.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested individuals were part of a terror module allegedly backed by Pakistan’s ISI . Police stated that the accused were in continuous contact with a Pakistan-based handler operating from abroad , who was allegedly directing the group’s activities.
Officials further said that before carrying out the attack, the accused had conducted reconnaissance of the target police station and carefully planned the operation. The module was reportedly radicalised and motivated to attack police establishments , with promises of financial rewards for executing such acts.
As per police inputs, on the night of the incident, the accused allegedly procured hand grenades from an undisclosed source as part of the module’s logistics and carried out the attack on the police station. Investigators believe the incident was part of a broader attempt to destabilise law enforcement infrastructure in Punjab.
Following the arrests, an FIR has been registered under stringent legal provisions, including the Explosive Substances Act , Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) , Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) , and the Arms Act .
Police have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing to establish both forward and backward linkages of the module, with the aim of identifying the wider network and dismantling it completely.
Authorities said further arrests are likely as the probe progresses into the cross-border terror network allegedly involved in orchestrating the attack.
