SIT Probe Today: All Eyes on KCR

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) , which is intensifying its probe into the alleged phone tapping case during the previous BRS government in Telangana , has once again issued notices to former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) . The SIT rejected KCR’s request to be examined at his Erravalli farmhouse and clarified that the inquiry must be conducted at his official residence in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad .

In its response, the SIT stated that the notice issued on January 29 was duly served at KCR’s Banjara Hills residence. It further noted that KCR submitted his representation only after receiving the notice. The SIT pasted its reply on the wall of KCR’s residence on Friday night .

Referring to Section 160 of the CrPC , the SIT said persons acquainted with the facts of a case can be summoned for questioning within the jurisdiction of the concerned police station. Considering KCR’s age, the SIT said it had agreed to conduct the examination at his residence in accordance with legal provisions.

However, the SIT rejected the request to hold the inquiry at the Erravalli farmhouse , stating that it is not listed as his official residence in government records. It also cited administrative difficulties in shifting sensitive electronic and physical evidence to the village.

Accordingly, the SIT directed KCR to be available for questioning at 3 pm on February 1 at his Banjara Hills residence. Earlier, the SIT had asked him to appear on January 30 , but KCR sought a different date citing municipal election commitments.

Reacting strongly, BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) criticised the move on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) , alleging harassment and political vendetta. He questioned whether police were following standard operating procedures while dealing with a former chief minister.

Meanwhile, TPCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud rejected the allegations, stating that there was no political vendetta and that the probe was being conducted strictly as per law.
