Sing Geetham Heads to Netflix on July 9: Here's Why the OTT Version Is Different
After earning widespread appreciation from critics but falling short at the box office, Sing Geetham is preparing for a fresh innings on OTT. Netflix has officially confirmed that the musical fantasy will begin streaming on July 9, 2026 , with the film now appearing in the platform's "Coming Soon" section. The digital release is expected to introduce the ambitious film to a much wider audience across India.
Directed by legendary filmmaker Singeetham Srinivasa Rao , who returned to the director's chair at the remarkable age of 94 , Sing Geetham marks the veteran's 61st directorial venture . Released in theatres on June 12 , the film stood out as one of the rare Indian musical fantasies, blending folklore, fantasy, music, and an environmental message into a unique cinematic experience. While its unconventional storytelling received glowing reviews, the film managed only a modest theatrical run, grossing around ₹7.4 crore worldwide during its box office journey.
Backed by Nag Ashwin under the Vyjayanthi Movies and Swapna Cinema banners, the film features Ayaan Khan , Ahilya Bamroo , and Shalini Kondepudi in the lead, with Nivetha Pethuraj in a key role and a special cameo by Vijay Deverakonda . The music is composed by Devi Sri Prasad , whose songs form the emotional backbone of the narrative.
The story unfolds in a mystical village where a supernatural event changes the lives of its residents, compelling them to express every emotion through song. At its heart lies a sacred tree and a mystery that intertwines fantasy with themes of environmental conservation, human greed, and hope, making it one of the most experimental Telugu films in recent years.
The OTT version comes with an added attraction. Producer Nag Ashwin has revealed that the Netflix release includes technical refinements , particularly improvements to certain visual effects and presentation, offering viewers a more polished experience than the theatrical version. Another major upgrade is the language rollout. While the film released in theatres only in Telugu and Tamil , Netflix will also stream it in Kannada and Malayalam , significantly expanding its reach across South India.
For a film that many believed deserved a bigger audience, Netflix could provide the perfect stage. With its imaginative concept, soulful music, emotional storytelling, and the return of one of Indian cinema's most celebrated filmmakers, Sing Geetham now has every opportunity to find the appreciation that eluded it in theatres.
