Sindhu withdraws from BWF tour

In a major development for Indian badminton, two-time Olympic medallist P.V. Sindhu has announced her withdrawal from all remaining BWF Tour events in 2025 to prioritize full recovery from a lingering foot injury.

The 30-year-old Hyderabad shuttler revealed that the decision came after extensive consultations with her medical and support teams, including renowned sports orthopaedist Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala. Sindhu sustained the injury ahead of the European leg of the tour earlier this year and has since struggled to regain full fitness.

“After consulting closely with my team and with the guidance of the incredible Dr. Pardiwala, we felt it was best for me to withdraw from all remaining BWF Tour events in 2025,” Sindhu said in a statement on Monday. “The foot injury I sustained before the European leg has not fully recovered, and while it is never easy to accept, injuries are an inseparable part of every athlete’s journey.”

Sindhu, who won the World Championship title in 2019, added that her rehabilitation is progressing steadily under the supervision of Dr. Wayne Lombard, supported by Nisha Rawat, Chetna, and her coach Irwansyah Adi Pratama.

The Commonwealth Games gold medallist has endured a challenging period over the past couple of years, marked by injuries and inconsistent form. Following an early exit at the Paris Olympics, Sindhu’s 2025 campaign has also been below expectations, with several first- and second-round defeats. Her best results came in the quarterfinals of the India Open Super 750, World Championships, and China Masters Super 750.

Sindhu last came close to a major title at the Malaysia Masters in 2024, where she finished runner-up, and later clinched the Syed Modi International Super 300 crown in December.

While her absence will leave a noticeable gap in the Indian badminton circuit, Sindhu’s decision signals her determination to return stronger. With recovery and resilience at the forefront, the ace shuttler now sets her sights on a full comeback in 2026.
