
Sindhu Storms Into Singapore Open Quarterfinals With Dominant Win
Olympic medallist PV Sindhu continued her strong run at the Singapore Open , advancing into the women’s singles quarterfinals with a commanding straight games victory at the USD 1,000,000 Super 750 tournament on Thursday.
Sindhu was in complete control from start to finish, outclassing Japan’s Riko Gunji in just 37 minutes. She won 21 to 9, 21 to 12 , displaying sharp movement, aggressive shot making, and solid control at the net. The win reflected her growing rhythm and confidence as she moved into the last eight .
A much tougher challenge now awaits her. Sindhu is set to face top seed An Se Young in the quarterfinals, a clash expected to test her consistency, defensive strength, and stamina at the highest level.
In men’s doubles, the fourth seeded Indian pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty had to fight hard to secure their place in the quarterfinals. The duo overcame Chinese Taipei’s Lee Jhe Huei and Yang Po Hsuan in a three game battle lasting one hour. They won 21 to 15, 11 to 21, 21 to 18 , showing resilience after dropping the second game. The Indian pair will next face Malaysia’s Khai Xing Kang and Aaron Tai .
India also registered success in mixed doubles as Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto stormed into the quarterfinals with a strong comeback win. After losing the opening game 8 to 21 , they regrouped well to take the next two games 21 to 17, 21 to 16 against Japan’s Yuta Watanabe and Maya Taguchi .
The Indian pair will now await their quarterfinal opponents, who will be decided between Korea’s Kim Jae Hyeon and Jang Ha Jeong and the Malaysian third seeds Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei .
With multiple Indian entries progressing deep into the tournament, the Singapore Open continues to highlight a strong campaign for India, led by Sindhu’s commanding run and backed by solid performances across doubles categories.
