Siddaramaiah leaves leadership decision to Congress High Command as rumours of change dismissed

Amid growing rumours about a possible leadership change in Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has clarified that any decision regarding the Chief Ministership or cabinet reshuffle will be taken only by the Congress party high command after the Bihar Assembly elections.

Addressing reporters in Mysuru on Monday, Siddaramaiah firmly dismissed the ongoing speculation, saying, “Regardless of people’s opinions, the decision of the high command is final. The party high command has not said anything on this matter so far. After the Bihar elections, the cabinet reshuffle will be discussed with them.”

He explained that the issue is being linked with the Bihar polls because the Congress leadership is currently focusing on managing the party’s campaign and alliances in that state. Since the high command handles key decisions for all Congress-ruled states, discussions on Karnataka’s leadership will only take place after the Bihar elections are concluded.

When asked why he did not make a decision himself, Siddaramaiah emphasised that in the Congress party, leadership matters are decided collectively by the central leadership, and he, like other state leaders, is a “disciplined soldier” who will follow their direction.

The rumours of a leadership change began due to speculation about an unofficial power-sharing agreement between Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, along with some voices within the party calling for a Dalit Chief Minister. However, all senior leaders have denied any internal differences.

Urban Development Minister Byrathi Suresh earlier reiterated that “the post of Chief Minister is not vacant” and that Siddaramaiah is effectively managing the state’s administration. Home Minister G. Parameshwara also said that statements by legislators about reshuffles or leadership change are irrelevant, as the final authority rests with the high command.

Deputy CM Shivakumar, too, dismissed the rumours, saying he would “go by whatever the Chief Minister says,” reinforcing the image of unity within the government.

As of now, the Congress leadership in Karnataka has presented a united front, with all key figures awaiting the high command’s final word on any possible cabinet reshuffle after the Bihar elections.
