Shots fired at Lawrence Bishnoi's lawyer in Delhi, gangster Naveen Boxer claims responsibility
Unidentified assailants opened fire on a car carrying advocate Deepak Khatri , a lawyer associated with jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi , late Tuesday night near the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) in Kashmere Gate, North Delhi. One person was injured in the attack.
The incident took place at approximately 10:15 PM near the Marghat Wale Hanuman Temple . The car's windshield was shattered in the attack, with visuals from the scene confirming the extent of the damage. As soon as the firing began, the occupants fled towards the nearby bus stand to protect themselves.
Khatri was accompanied by four companions at the time. Three unidentified assailants arrived on a scooter, one of whom was armed and opened fire. One occupant, identified as Sandeep , sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder and was hospitalized. He is currently in stable condition.
In a significant development, gangster Naveen Boxer allegedly claimed responsibility for the attack on social media, framing it as a warning directed at lawyer Khatri.
Khatri himself said he had not received any explicit threats beforehand but acknowledged that "something is fishy." However, Joint Commissioner of Police Madhur Verma stated that Khatri had previously received threats from Pakistani gangster Shahzad Bhatti , and that detailed statements were being recorded from all those present in the car.
An FIR has been registered at Kashmere Gate Police Station under charges of attempted murder and criminal conspiracy under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections 25/27 of the Arms Act. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia noted that the car's occupants have given varying accounts regarding the number of attackers. CCTV footage from the area is being examined and forensic teams have been deployed.
