Shocking! UP women in unbearable labour pain slits abdomen, baby survives

In a shocking incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district, a 35-year-old woman reportedly slit her own abdomen with a kitchen knife after struggling with unbearable labour pain, yet later delivered a healthy baby girl.

The woman, identified as Nankai from Nandwal village under Baundi police station, was rushed to Fakharpur Community Health Centre by neighbours who heard her cries for help. She successfully delivered a baby girl through a normal delivery at the facility. However, her condition rapidly deteriorated soon after childbirth.

Hospital authorities later discovered a deep abdominal wound , allegedly inflicted with a serrated knife, with intestines protruding and significant blood loss . The hospital’s chief medical superintendent said she was admitted around 3:20 pm and, given the severity of her injuries, was referred to a higher medical facility in Lucknow for advanced treatment.

A video circulating on social media reportedly shows Nankai on a stretcher, stating that she had cut open her abdomen due to the excruciating labour pain, police officials confirmed.

Neighbours revealed that Nankai had been living alone after her husband passed away six months ago. When she went into labour on Thursday afternoon, the intense pain reportedly led her to use a vegetable knife on herself. Emergency services were alerted immediately, and she was transported to the health centre where she delivered her baby.

After her condition worsened post-delivery, she was shifted to the district hospital and subsequently referred to Lucknow. Her mother, Neeta , accompanied her during the transfer. Medical staff are now focusing on stabilising her condition and providing advanced care.
