Shivling destroyed at Draksharamam temple, one arrested

A shocking incident at the famous pilgrimage site of Draksharamam in Konaseema district has left devotees and officials alarmed. Unknown individuals vandalized a Shivling located near the temple’s Koneru (sacred pond). Police acted quickly after receiving information about the incident and have arrested one suspect so far.

The incident came to light on Tuesday. According to Ramachandrapuram DSP B. Raghveer, police reached the site immediately after local residents reported damage to the Shivling. CCTV footage from the area helped identify and apprehend the suspect. A detailed investigation into the case is ongoing.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed serious concern over the incident. He spoke with Endowments Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy to get a detailed report. Special police teams have been formed to investigate the case. The Chief Minister instructed officials to ensure strict punishment for those responsible and to keep him updated on the investigation’s progress.

Endowments Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy condemned the act, calling it disrespectful to devotees’ sentiments. He reviewed the situation over the phone with the district minister, collector, and SP. Four special police teams have been deployed to identify all those involved. The minister emphasized that strict legal action will be taken against the culprits. He also expressed concern over the incident happening at a protected heritage site and announced that the police and endowment department will coordinate closely to prevent such incidents in the future.
