Senior IPS officer Shivadhar Reddy has officially taken charge as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana. His appointment was made by the state government earlier this week, and a formal ceremony was held at the Telangana Police Headquarters in Lakdikapul, Hyderabad, to mark the occasion.

A 1994-batch IPS officer, Shivadhar Reddy has previously served in key positions including the Crime Investigation Department (CID), Intelligence, and Traffic wings. Known for his focus on modernization of policing and improving community relations, he brings wide experience to his new role.

Speaking after assuming charge, Shivadhar Reddy said his top priority will be strengthening law and order across the state. He emphasized the need for transparency, efficiency, and building public trust in the police system. “Policing should work in a way that earns people’s confidence,” he noted.

Shivadhar Reddy succeeds IPS Jitender, who retired on September 30th. Analysts believe that this leadership change could signal a new phase in Telangana’s policing, with expectations that Shivadhar Reddy’s approach will focus on stronger community engagement and enhanced security measures.

Observers suggest that under his leadership, the Telangana Police may take significant steps toward modernization and building greater public confidence in law enforcement.
