Shiv Pratap Shukla Arrives in Hyderabad to Take Charge as Telangana Governor

Telangana is set to welcome a new constitutional head as Shiv Pratap Shukla arrived in Hyderabad on Tuesday to take charge as the Governor of the state , marking a significant administrative transition ahead of the upcoming Budget Session of the Assembly .

The incoming Governor was received with a warm and formal welcome by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad . The reception reflected the importance of the occasion, with several senior members of the state administration present.

Among those who greeted him were IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu, Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, and Director General of Police B. Shivdhar Reddy, along with other senior officials. Their presence underscored the government’s readiness for the leadership transition at the Raj Bhavan.

Shukla is scheduled to formally assume office as the Governor of Telangana today, following the completion of official arrangements for the swearing-in ceremony. As Governor, he will serve as the constitutional head and first citizen of the state, overseeing key ceremonial and legislative functions.

His appointment follows a recent reshuffle of Governors by the President of India , which led to the transfer of Jishnu Dev Varma , who had been serving as the Governor of Telangana. Varma has now been appointed as the Governor of Maharashtra , paving the way for Shukla’s new assignment in the southern state.

The timing of the change in Raj Bhavan leadership comes at a crucial moment for Telangana. The State Legislative Assembly is scheduled to commence its Budget Session on March 16 , and as per constitutional practice, the Governor will address a joint sitting of both Houses on the opening day , outlining the government’s policy direction and legislative priorities for the year.

A veteran politician from Uttar Pradesh , Shiv Pratap Shukla brings extensive administrative and political experience to his new role. Before this appointment, he served as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh , gaining experience in constitutional governance at the state level.

Over the years, Shukla has held several important positions in public life. He previously served as a Cabinet Minister in the Uttar Pradesh government and later as Minister of State for Finance in the Union Government , contributing to national financial policymaking.
