‘She Netra’: Hyderabad Police’s New Weapon to Curb Hidden Cameras
In a move aimed at safeguarding women’s safety and privacy , the Hyderabad City Police have launched an innovative initiative called ‘She Netra’ . The programme is designed to curb the growing menace of hidden cameras in places such as hotels, hostels, and malls.
City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar formally inaugurated the project by handing over advanced camera detector kits to the teams. On the occasion, the police issued a stern warning, stating that any attempt to violate women’s dignity will not be tolerated .
A total of seven ‘She Netra’ teams , one for each zone in the city, have been deployed. These teams have undergone comprehensive training in two phases , equipping them with technical knowledge, systematic procedures, and the use of advanced detection equipment to identify concealed surveillance devices.
The teams will not only respond to complaints but will also conduct surprise inspections across various locations. Special focus will be on trial rooms, washrooms, educational institutions, and commercial complexes , where constant vigilance will be maintained.
Commissioner Sajjanar also emphasised the responsibility of managements , stating that it is their duty to ensure that no hidden cameras are installed, especially in private spaces within their premises. If any such devices are detected during inspections, strict criminal cases will be registered against those responsible, whether due to negligence or direct involvement.
Additionally, establishments and employees found violating the norms will be blacklisted , with authorities warning that this could impact their future business or employment prospects.
The police department expressed confidence that by combining advanced technology with field-level inspections , the ‘She Netra’ teams will instil fear among offenders. The initiative aims to create an environment where women can move freely without fear .
Citizens have also been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police immediately. The Hyderabad Police believe that the ‘She Netra’ initiative will mark a significant milestone in strengthening women’s safety in the city.
