Shankar Mahadevan, Rashmika Mandanna to Lead India's Grand CWG 2030 Handover Showcase

India is preparing to make a memorable statement on the global stage as singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan and Bollywood actor Rashmika Mandanna headline the country's cultural presentation during the Commonwealth Games 2026 closing ceremony on August 2.

The event will hold special significance as India officially receives the Commonwealth Games flag, marking the formal transition to the host nation for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, which will be held in Ahmedabad. The ceremony symbolizes the beginning of India's journey towards staging the prestigious multi-sport event for only the second time, following the 2010 New Delhi Commonwealth Games.

India's presentation, expected to last around 20 minutes, will celebrate the country's rich and diverse cultural heritage through a vibrant blend of music, dance and traditional performances. The showcase is being designed as a preview of what the world can expect when athletes from across the Commonwealth gather in Ahmedabad for the historic centenary edition of the Games in 2030.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend the ceremony, where India will formally accept the responsibility of hosting the next Commonwealth Games.

The closing ceremony will also celebrate Scotland's cultural identity before concluding with a performance by legendary Glasgow rock band Simple Minds, who will provide the musical finale to bring the 2026 Commonwealth Games to a close.

With the official handover and a star-studded cultural showcase, the ceremony is expected to mark the beginning of India's preparations for one of its biggest international sporting events in the coming decade.
