Shah Launches Solicitor General’s Book “The Bench, The Bar & The Bizarre”, Hails Judiciary
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday stressed that India’s democratic strength lies in the deep coordination between the Constitution, Parliament, and Judiciary , as he addressed a gathering in New Delhi at the launch of a new book on courtroom experiences.
The occasion marked the release of The Bench, the Bar, and the Bizarre and the Lawful and the Awful , authored by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta . The event was attended by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and several senior members of the legal fraternity, reflecting the importance of the moment for the legal community.
The book offers a rare blend of courtroom humour, satire, and legal reflection , presenting human stories from inside judicial proceedings while also exploring the evolving nature of law in modern times.
Speaking at the event, Amit Shah said India has completed 76 years of its constitutional journey , during which democratic institutions have steadily grown stronger. He noted that every major political and legislative change since Independence has been absorbed within the constitutional framework, proving the resilience of India’s democratic system.
He emphasised that citizens continue to place strong faith in the judiciary, believing that justice remains accessible even to the weakest sections of society . According to him, this trust forms the foundation of India’s social and political stability.
Shah underlined that the true strength of democracy does not come from conflict between institutions but from constitutional balance and mutual respect between the legislature, executive, and judiciary. He said the Constitution was designed to encourage dialogue and restraint rather than confrontation.
Referring to the content of the book, Shah appreciated its depiction of courtroom life, including lighter moments and unique judicial incidents, which bring out the human side of the justice system . He also highlighted the author’s observations on future challenges such as artificial intelligence in the judiciary , calling it a serious area for reflection.
The Home Minister also noted the emotional dedication of the book to the author’s mother, and shared a personal reflection on the cultural importance of maternal respect in Indian tradition.
He concluded that a strong justice system is essential for public trust, orderly governance, and the moral strength of the nation , and urged continued cooperation between all pillars of democracy to preserve and strengthen constitutional values.
