A sex racket operating out of a resort in Roing in Arunachal Pradesh’s Lower Dibang Valley district was busted during a late-night police raid, leading to the rescue of four women and detention of several individuals, officials said on Monday.

Acting on specific inputs about alleged illegal activities, a team from Roing Police Station carried out a surprise raid at a resort in the Meka area on Sunday night. During the operation, four women reportedly brought from Assam’s Tinsukia region were rescued and taken into protective custody.

The resort owner, manager, and a number of customers present at the site were detained for questioning. According to police, those present were allegedly found engaged in prostitution at the time of the raid.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the racket involved bringing women from outside the state, while most of the clientele comprised local residents. Authorities said they had been receiving complaints from the public over suspected immoral activities in the area in recent days, prompting the action.

A case has been registered at Roing Police Station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act (ITPA). Police officials said further investigation is underway to identify other individuals linked to the racket and to dismantle the network.

Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister Mama Natung lauded the police team for their swift action. In a social media post, he reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards illegal activities and social evils, adding that the establishment was operating without a valid licence.

He assured that strict legal action would be taken against those involved and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring safety and curbing exploitation in the state.
