Severe Heatwave Grips Andhra Pradesh, Warnings Issued for 64 Mandals
Andhra Pradesh continues to witness a severe rise in temperatures as the heatwave conditions intensify across the state. The State Disaster Management Authority has issued an alert, stating that around 64 mandals are expected to face extreme heat on Saturday.
According to Disaster Management Managing Director Prakhar Jain, extreme temperatures are likely in parts of Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Polavaram, NTR, Guntur, Palnadu, Markapuram, Prakasam, Nellore, and Tirupati districts . He warned that temperatures will remain well above normal and urged people to take necessary precautions.
On Friday, as many as 252 mandals across 20 districts reported high heat conditions, with several places crossing 41°C . The highest temperature was recorded in Piduguralla (Palnadu) at a scorching 45.9°C . Other notable readings included 45.5°C in Gudur (Nellore) and 45.1°C in Pedaparupudi (Krishna) . Similar intensity was observed in Thorregadipadu (45.1°C, NTR district) , while Chebrolu (44.1°C) and Karanchedu (44°C) also experienced severe heat.
Meteorological officials said a trough system extending from South Odisha through Telangana and Andhra Pradesh up to the Gulf of Mannar is influencing the weather pattern. Due to this system, isolated thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall are likely in parts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Visakhapatnam, Chittoor, and Tirupati districts .
Officials added that cloudy conditions and gusty winds are expected over the next two days, which may bring temporary relief from the ongoing heat stress in some areas.
Authorities have urged the public to avoid outdoor exposure during peak afternoon hours and follow safety guidelines. Farmers, labourers, and shepherds have also been warned against taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms due to the risk of lightning strikes .
