Seven arrested for alleged links with ULFA (I) in Assam, Arunachal crackdown

In a coordinated crackdown on insurgent networks, security forces have arrested seven individuals for their alleged association with the banned militant outfit United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent), officials said on Sunday.

The arrests were carried out across multiple locations in Assam’s Tinsukia district and adjoining areas of Arunachal Pradesh, following specific intelligence inputs. Police sources indicated that the detained individuals were part of a network that had been operating for some time, assisting the insurgent group from within civilian areas.

According to officials, the accused were not directly involved in armed activities but played a crucial role in sustaining the outfit’s operations. Their alleged involvement included providing logistical support , such as arranging shelter and supplies, and facilitating communication channels between operatives.

“All seven accused are currently in police custody, and interrogation is underway to ascertain the extent of their involvement and links within the network,” a senior officer said. Investigators are also working to identify any additional associates or sleeper cells operating in the region.

The operation forms part of intensified efforts by security agencies to dismantle support systems of insurgent groups in Upper Assam , a region that has historically witnessed militant activity. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and preventing the resurgence of insurgency by targeting not only armed cadres but also their support structures.
