
Seven arrested for ₹60 lakh daylight robbery in North Delhi
The Delhi Police have arrested seven persons, including an employee of a mobile accessories firm , for allegedly robbing ₹60 lakh at gunpoint in broad daylight in north Delhi, an officer said on Friday.
The robbery took place on January 7 when complainant Sandeep Swami , a resident of Shastri Nagar, and his colleague Shiva were transporting cash from Rohini Sector 8 to Karol Bagh . Swami works at a mobile accessories shop and was assigned to collect money from parties and deposit it at the firm .
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia , the two were travelling on a scooter with ₹60 lakh in cash when they were intercepted near Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya in Subhadra Colony around 1.45 pm . Two motorcycle-borne assailants allegedly threatened them at gunpoint and fled with the cash .
A case was registered and police scanned over 100 CCTV cameras from Rohini to the crime scene. Call detail records of several suspects were also analysed, which led investigators to suspect Shiva.
During sustained interrogation, Shiva allegedly confessed to tipping off the gang about the movement of the cash. He was arrested and identified his accomplices as Rajeev, Karan, Hitender alias Pahadi, Sunny alias Kainchi, Karnail Singh and Nadeem , police said.
Two of the accused were arrested on January 11 , from whom police recovered part of the stolen cash and the scooter used to trail the victims . The remaining four were nabbed on January 27 and 28 near Hindu Rao Hospital while allegedly trying to flee Delhi in a car.
In total, police recovered ₹28.12 lakh in cash , the scooter, the car used in the offence and other incriminating material .
During interrogation, it was revealed that Shiva had conspired with his neighbours , including Karnail Singh and Rajeev, and shared details about the firm’s cash flow and movement schedule .
“The gang had also planned another armed robbery of over ₹2 crore in Karol Bagh , which was foiled following their arrest,” the DCP said.
Several of the accused are declared bad characters and are involved in multiple cases of armed robbery, snatching, attempt to murder and offences under the Arms Act across Delhi and the NCR region.
