Benchmark indices staged a strong rebound on Wednesday as the Sensex jumped 609.45 points to close at 77,496.36 , while the Nifty rose 181.95 points to end above 24,100 , supported by value buying, strong earnings, and positive global cues .

During the session, the Sensex touched an intraday high of 77,982.51 , gaining over 1,095 points , before settling higher in a volatile trade. The recovery came after the previous session’s decline, as investors stepped in to accumulate quality stocks at lower levels.

The rally was primarily driven by better-than-expected corporate earnings , which strengthened confidence in domestic demand and corporate resilience. Strong results from companies such as Maruti Suzuki , which reported record annual profit and robust sales, further boosted sentiment.

Buying was seen across key sectors, with FMCG, auto, telecom, energy and realty stocks leading the gains. The FMCG index rose the most by 1.57 per cent , followed by gains in auto and telecom segments, reflecting optimism around consumption-led growth.

Market participants said the recovery was also supported by improved global sentiment , as most Asian markets ended higher. This helped lift risk appetite despite weakness in European and US markets.

Another key factor was easing concerns over geopolitical tensions , which helped stabilise crude oil expectations, an important macro variable for India’s economy.

However, the upside was partially capped by persistent concerns such as elevated crude oil prices near USD 114 per barrel , a weak rupee , and continued foreign institutional investor (FII) selling . FIIs offloaded equities worth Rs 2,103.74 crore , though this was offset by domestic institutional buying of Rs 1,712.01 crore .

Experts noted that investors largely shifted focus away from macro risks and towards earnings momentum and corporate fundamentals . While financial stocks lagged due to regulatory and provisioning concerns, broader market sentiment remained firm.

On the global front, Asian markets such as South Korea and Hong Kong closed higher, adding to domestic support, while Japan remained shut for a holiday.

Overall, the session reflected a classic value-led recovery , driven by strong earnings, sectoral strength, and selective institutional support amid a still cautious global environment.
