Sensational Sooryavanshi Keeps RR Playoffs Hopes Alive With Stunning 93
Rajasthan Royals kept their IPL playoff hopes alive with a thrilling seven-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants , powered by a sensational innings from teenage batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in Jaipur on Tuesday.
Chasing a daunting target of 221 in a must-win contest, Rajasthan completed the chase in just 19.1 overs as the 15-year-old Sooryavanshi smashed a breathtaking 93 off 38 balls , lighting up the stadium with an extraordinary display of fearless strokeplay. His innings, packed with 10 sixes , completely overshadowed Mitchell Marsh’s brilliant 96 for LSG and reaffirmed his status as one of the breakout stars of IPL 2026.
The victory moved Rajasthan to 14 points , keeping them firmly in contention for a playoff berth ahead of their final league clash against Mumbai Indians .
Earlier, Lucknow Super Giants looked set for victory after Marsh produced another commanding knock at the top of the order. The Australian all-rounder hammered 11 fours and five sixes during his explosive 57-ball 96, narrowly missing out on a century for the second time this season. Marsh, who has now crossed 560 runs this season, once again emerged as the backbone of the LSG batting lineup.
He received excellent support from Josh Inglis , who blasted 60 off 29 balls in a rapid 109-run opening partnership. Skipper Rishabh Pant added 35 as LSG posted a formidable 220 for five in 20 overs.
Rajasthan’s bowling attack struggled for consistency on a batting-friendly surface, although young leg-spinner Yash Raj Punja impressed with figures of 2/35. Jofra Archer also delivered a crucial final over, conceding only five runs and denying Marsh a deserved century.
Despite the huge chase, Rajasthan attacked from the beginning. Stand-in captain Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a quick 43 before Sooryavanshi completely took over the contest.
The youngster dismantled the Lucknow bowling attack with astonishing ease, including a brutal assault on express pacer Mayank Yadav , from whom RR collected 29 runs in one over. Even quality deliveries disappeared into the stands as Sooryavanshi showcased exceptional timing and fearless intent.
Although he fell seven runs short of a century, the damage had already been done. Dhruv Jurel then calmly finished the chase with an unbeaten 53 to seal a memorable victory for Rajasthan Royals.
