A tragic incident occurred in Kosigi mandal of Kurnool district, where four members of the same extended family drowned in the Tungabhadra River while attempting to take selfies. The victims had come to attend a family wedding , turning a joyful occasion into a scene of grief. Two of the deceased were women, leaving the family in deep mourning.

According to Emmiganur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (DSP) N. Bhargavi , the victims were part of a group of around 10 relatives who visited the river during their stay. Captivated by the scenic surroundings, they ventured into the water to capture selfies. In the process, one person slipped into deeper waters , and the others, while trying to rescue them, also drowned one after another.

Police said that although steps and elevated platforms were available at the site for safe viewing, the group ignored these facilities and entered the river at a dangerous point , leading to the mishap. Despite immediate rescue efforts by locals, all four had already drowned by the time help arrived. The bodies were later retrieved by the police.

A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway. DSP Bhargavi urged the public to remain vigilant in hazardous areas , especially near riverbanks, and cautioned against risking lives for selfies. She added that warning signboards and safety measures would be strengthened to prevent such incidents in the future.
