Seethakka Lays Foundation for ₹10 Lakh Mahila Samakhya Building in Devagiripatnam

Marking International Women’s Day , Telangana Rural Development and Women & Child Welfare Minister Danasari Seethakka on Saturday launched initiatives aimed at strengthening women’s collectives and improving rural welfare in Mulugu district.

The minister laid the foundation stone for a Mahila Samakhya building in Devagiripatnam village of Mulugu mandal , a facility expected to serve as a coordination centre for women’s self-help groups in the area. The project will be constructed with an allocation of ₹10 lakh under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) .

Once completed, the building will provide a dedicated space for self-help group meetings, training sessions and community-level programmes, helping women’s collectives organise activities more effectively. Officials say such infrastructure plays an important role in strengthening grassroots organisations that support rural livelihoods and financial inclusion.

Speaking at the programme, Seethakka highlighted the growing role of women’s self-help groups in rural economic development, noting that the state government is focused on expanding opportunities for women through skill development, financial support and institutional strengthening.

The minister later travelled to Chintalapudi village , where she participated in the house-warming ceremony of an Indiramma house allotted to beneficiary Vinoda . Addressing villagers, she said providing secure housing for economically weaker families remains a key commitment of the government.

She pointed out that initiatives like housing schemes for the poor and support systems for women’s organisations are designed to bring long-term improvements in living standards and community development across rural Telangana.

Seethakka said empowering women at the village level not only strengthens families but also contributes to broader social and economic progress. She added that the government will continue to prioritise programmes that promote women’s leadership, financial independence and community participation.

Local public representatives, officials and members of women’s self-help groups attended the events.
