Security Tightened at ‘Jhalmuri Stall’ Visited by PM After Owner Receives Death Threats in Bengal

Security has been significantly strengthened at a modest jhalmuri stall in Jhargram town of West Bengal , which earlier drew attention after being visited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his election campaign.

The stall owner, Bikram Kumar Sau, has alleged that he has been receiving repeated death threats through phone calls, messages and even a video call in which armed individuals were seen threatening him. According to his complaint, some of the callers claimed links to Pakistan and Bangladesh and warned of serious harm, including threats to blow up his stall.

Sau said the intimidation began on May 17 and continued for several days, forcing him to shut his shop temporarily out of fear. He reopened the stall only after seeking help from local authorities.

Police in West Bengal have confirmed that a formal complaint has been registered and an investigation is underway. Cybercrime experts are assisting officials in tracing the origin of the calls and messages to verify the claims and identify those responsible.

Given the seriousness of the threats, authorities have deployed four personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces outside the stall. CCTV cameras have also been installed in and around the area to ensure continuous monitoring and public safety.

Officials said all preventive measures have been taken to protect the stall owner and his family and to avoid any untoward incident while the investigation continues.

The small roadside stall had gained sudden popularity after the Prime Minister stopped there during a rally visit in April and sampled the local snack. Since then, the jhalmuri stall has remained in public focus, drawing visitors and attention from across the region.

The incident has once again put the spotlight on Jhargram town in Jhargram and the broader Junglemahal region , where political attention and public visibility have sharply increased in recent times.
