Security Forces Conduct Anti-Fidayeen Drill at Kulgam Railway Station
Security forces on Wednesday conducted an anti-fidayeen attack mock drill at Harnag Railway Station in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district to assess operational preparedness and strengthen coordination among security agencies, officials said.
The exercise was conducted by Kulgam Police in coordination with the Army, Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), a police spokesperson said.
During the drill, road cut-offs were established at designated locations, and participating agencies carried out coordinated response measures to neutralise a simulated militant threat and ensure the safe evacuation of passengers and civilians.
The exercise aimed to improve response times, enhance operational readiness and strengthen inter-agency coordination to ensure an effective response to any eventuality, the spokesperson added. Separately, Handwara Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sajad Khaliq Bhat reviewed security and operational preparedness in the North Kashmir police district.
Bhat, who assumed charge on Monday, assessed key policing and security issues, including investigations under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), identification of security hotspots, vulnerability mapping, deployment arrangements and law-and-order preparedness.
He directed officers to strengthen the security grid, intensify patrolling and checkpoint inspections, maintain heightened vigilance at sensitive locations and take timely preventive action against elements likely to disturb peace and public order.
The SSP also stressed the need for effective surveillance outside prisons, in accordance with established legal procedures, to identify and prevent potential security threats.
Emphasising the importance of online monitoring, Bhat directed officers to closely track social media platforms for provocative, misleading and unlawful content that could affect public peace and security. He instructed them to initiate appropriate action in accordance with the law.
