
Second Phase Panchayat Elections Today Across 3,911 Telangana Villages
Polling for the second phase of Gram Panchayat elections in Telangana is being held today , covering 3,911 villages across the state . Although notifications were issued for 4,331 Gram Sarpanch posts , elections are not being conducted in 415 villages where candidates were elected unanimously and five villages where no nominations were filed , leaving 3,911 Gram Panchayats going to the polls in this phase. The State Election Commission has completed all arrangements to ensure smooth and peaceful polling.
As the polling coincided with the weekend, a large number of voters residing in towns and cities travelled to their native villages to exercise their franchise. Bus stations and major transit routes witnessed heavy rush, indicating increased participation in the grassroots democratic process.
District authorities, in coordination with the State Election Commission, completed all logistical preparations ahead of polling. Election personnel were provided with ballot papers, seals, stamps, voter lists and other essential materials on Saturday to ensure the smooth conduct of polling.
Polling began at 7 am and will continue until evening . Tight security arrangements have been put in place at polling stations, with enhanced police deployment to prevent any untoward incidents. Special surveillance has been arranged at sensitive and vulnerable polling centres to ensure peaceful voting.
In a key administrative decision, the State Election Commission has scheduled the counting of votes on the same day , beginning at 2 pm , immediately after the completion of polling. Officials said the move was aimed at ensuring quicker declaration of results and greater transparency in the election process.
In the second phase, 415 Gram Sarpanch posts and 8,308 ward member seats were decided unanimously , as only one candidate filed nominations in those constituencies. Meanwhile, five Gram Panchayats did not receive any nominations , and elections could not be conducted in those villages. Polling is being held in the remaining contested seats. For ward member elections, polling is being conducted in the remaining wards out of a total 38,332 wards notified in this phase, excluding those settled unanimously.
In the first phase of the Gram Panchayat elections , polling was held peacefully across thousands of villages, and results have already been declared. According to official data, over 3,800 Gram Panchayats went to polls in the first phase , while several Sarpanch and ward member seats were filled unanimously.
The third and final phase of Gram Panchayat elections in Telangana is scheduled to be held on December 17 , covering the remaining villages across the state. The State Election Commission has already completed the nomination process for this phase and instructed district administrations to replicate the same security and logistical measures adopted in the earlier phases.
The State Election Commission has appealed to voters to participate in large numbers, stating that Gram Panchayat elections play a crucial role in strengthening grassroots democracy. Further details regarding vote counting and phase-wise results will be announced after the completion of polling.
