Second phase of Indiramma housing to begin in April: Minister Ponguleti

The Telangana government is taking concrete steps to make homeownership a reality for every eligible poor family, said Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy. As part of this effort, the government plans to accelerate the Indiramma housing program across the state and provide houses to eligible beneficiaries in two phases over the next two years. The second phase of house distribution is scheduled to begin in April this year.

In Suryapet district, a model Indiramma housing colony with 2,160 homes is being constructed near Ramswami Gutta, close to the Huzurnagar constituency center. The Minister stated that the construction work is targeted for completion by March 31. Officials including Minister for Irrigation and Public Utilities Uttam Kumar Reddy, Miryalaguda MLA Bathula Lakshmireddy, Housing Department Secretary Gautam, and District Collector Tejas Nand Lal Pawar recently reviewed the progress of the colony. They also inspected the ongoing housing construction and the sewage treatment plant, followed by meetings with relevant authorities.

Minister Ponguleti emphasized that the Huzurnagar Indiramma colony will be developed as a model colony, with all basic infrastructure such as roads, electricity, and drinking water fully in place. He instructed engineers to identify any remaining work on-site and submit proposals for its swift completion.

A dedicated officer has been assigned to monitor the progress of the colony, and the district collector has been directed to prepare estimates for remaining work so that approvals can be granted by January 15. If necessary, work can be divided into phases to ensure faster completion.

The minister underlined that houses will be provided to all eligible beneficiaries regardless of political affiliation, caste, religion, or social background. Each house is being constructed at a cost of ₹5 lakh, and beneficiaries are being issued bills in stages every Monday. Responding to requests from MLAs in the Assembly, the government has also agreed to sanction additional Indiramma houses and complete pending houses under the earlier Gruhajyothi scheme. Minister Ponguleti criticized the previous government for neglecting housing for the poor.

According to housing policy, applications from multiple poor families will be considered, and the district collector has been directed to ensure houses are handed over by March 31. The final list of beneficiaries is expected to be prepared by the end of this month.
