Seasonal hostels play a crucial role in ensuring that children of migrant workers receive education, care and protection despite their families' frequent movements in search of employment, Guntur West MLA Galla Madhavi said on Saturday.

Madhavi inaugurated a seasonal hostel at Durganagar in Ward 25 of her constituency. Speaking on the occasion, she urged migrant workers living in the area to enrol their children at the facility so that they could continue their education without disruption. She said the hostel would provide students with breakfast and lunch, helping support their nutritional needs alongside their schooling.

The MLA noted that migration in search of livelihood opportunities had been a longstanding phenomenon. Families often move between regions depending on the availability of seasonal employment, making it difficult for their children to attend school regularly. Such frequent relocations can interrupt their studies and deprive them of a stable learning environment.

Seasonal hostels offer a practical solution by providing children with access to education and essential care while their parents work away from their home states, she said.

Madhavi pointed out that the Guntur Mirchi Yard attracts a significant number of migrant workers from states such as Odisha and Bihar in search of employment. In this context, providing a safe environment and educational opportunities for their children is particularly important.

She said the coalition government had paid special attention to the operation of seasonal hostels in the constituency since coming to power. These facilities are intended to help protect vulnerable children and ensure that their education does not suffer because of their parents' employment-related migration.

Stressing the need to eliminate child labour and safeguard children's rights, Madhavi said every child must have access to quality education and a secure environment. She emphasised that protecting the future of migrant workers' children was a collective responsibility.

The MLA called on the public and concerned stakeholders to work together to ensure that every child gets an opportunity to study, develop their abilities and build a better future, irrespective of their family's economic circumstances.
