Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Saturday inaugurated an Adani Vikas Kendra in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri district, a large-scale facility aimed at empowering rural women through skill development and garment manufacturing .

The centre, located in Badarwas , has been developed over an area of 48,000 square feet and is equipped with 600 modern sewing machines . It is designed as a dual-purpose facility functioning both as a training hub and a production unit for women from nearby villages. Speaking at the inauguration, Scindia said, “What we are witnessing in Badarwas is the power of aspiration taking shape,” while praising the efforts of the Adani Group and the Adani Foundation for creating a platform that connects rural skills with broader market opportunities.

According to officials, the centre will primarily focus on garment production , including stitching, tailoring, and apparel manufacturing work . Women trained at the facility are expected to produce finished garments and textile-based products that can be linked to formal supply chains and commercial markets .

While detailed product categories have not been separately listed, the nature of the infrastructure suggests output geared toward ready-made garments and textile stitching work , which are typically supplied to retail and institutional buyers through organised value chains. Yes, the model is designed not just for training but also for income generation through production linked to market demand . As the centre scales up operations, the garments and stitched products are expected to be sold through commercial channels , enabling participating women to earn a steady monthly income .

Officials said around 1,500 women are likely to benefit once the centre operates at full capacity, helping improve household earnings , reduce dependence on informal labour , and curb migration to urban centres for work. The initiative has raised questions about whether the Adani Group is expanding into the textile sector . However, there is no official indication that this project represents a direct entry into textile manufacturing as a core business line.

Instead, the Swabhimaan programme of the Adani Foundation is positioned as a livelihood and skill development initiative , aimed at connecting up to one million women across India with sustainable employment opportunities. The Badarwas centre, therefore, appears to function primarily as a social empowerment and livelihood-generation model , rather than a standalone industrial expansion into textiles.
