
Science and Research Hold the Key to Agriculture’s Future: Governor
Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma on Friday said that the agriculture sector would have a bright future only if it is integrated with modern technology and research. He visited the Mattapalli Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Suryapet district and later laid foundation stones for several development and education projects worth over ₹800 crore .
The Governor said the government aims to develop the Mattapalli region not only as a spiritual centre but also as a hub for education and agriculture. He laid the foundation stone for an agricultural college to be established near Huzurnagar at a cost of ₹150 crore across 100 acres . He expressed confidence that the institution would emerge as a centre for research-driven agriculture . He also laid the foundation stone for a Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya to be constructed near Kodad at a cost of ₹50 crore , which is expected to provide quality education to talented students from rural areas.
As part of the development of the Mattapalli temple, the Governor laid foundation stones for a pilgrims’ rest house and kitchen shed at a cost of ₹2 crore , and dormitory buildings at another ₹2 crore , aimed at improving facilities for devotees.
On the occasion, agricultural machinery worth ₹2.47 crore was distributed to farmers. The government also extended ₹504 crore in bank linkage support and ₹89 crore in livelihood assistance to self-help groups, which the Governor said would significantly strengthen the rural economy.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor said the national slogan has now evolved into “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan, Jai Anusandhan.” He stressed that agriculture must be treated as a science and that research is key to increasing farmers’ incomes .
Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said Telangana ranks first in the country in paddy production and is the only state supplying free fine rice to 85 per cent of its population . He assured continuous efforts for the development of the Mattapalli region.
Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao said agriculture would surpass even artificial intelligence in the future. He noted that Telangana is leading the country in paddy and oil palm production . Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar , public representatives and officials were also present at the programme.
