A petition has been moved before the Supreme Court seeking a CBI inquiry into alleged corruption and horse-trading linked to the confidence vote won by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government headed by Vijay in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.

The plea, filed by Madurai-based petitioner K K Ramesh , questions the manner in which the floor test was conducted on May 13 and alleges that legislators from rival parties were influenced to back the ruling alliance. The petitioner has claimed that the process violated democratic norms and called for a detailed investigation into the events surrounding the trust vote.

During the confidence motion, the Vijay-led government secured 144 votes in support and 22 against , comfortably proving its majority in the Assembly. Although Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam emerged as the largest party after the Assembly election with 108 seats, it later received support from additional MLAs and allies to cross the majority mark.

The petition alleges that several legislators switched support under questionable circumstances and claims that money and political inducements may have been used to secure backing for the government. Seeking judicial intervention, the petitioner has urged the apex court to hand over the matter to the CBI for a court-monitored probe.

The plea has also sought the imposition of President’s Rule in Tamil Nadu until the investigation is completed, arguing that the legitimacy of the present government remains under doubt if the allegations are proven true.

The controversy has intensified political tensions in the state, with opposition parties earlier raising concerns over defections and support extended to the newly formed government after the election results.

The Supreme Court is yet to fix a date for hearing the matter. Court records show that the petition has been registered as KK Ramesh vs Union of India (Diary No. 31836/2026) .
