SC Directs Expelled JD(U) MLA Anant Singh to Surrender by December 1 in Murder Case
The Supreme Court on Friday directed expelled JD(U) MLA Anant Singh to surrender by December 1 in connection with the murder of Dular Chand Yadav, dealing a setback to the former Mokama legislator who had secured bail earlier this year.
A bench comprising Justices M M Sundresh and Prasanna B Varale passed the order while hearing a petition seeking cancellation of the bail granted to Singh by the Patna High Court in March 2026.
Singh was arrested in connection with the murder of Yadav in October 2025. He was accused of allegedly orchestrating the killing, following which he was taken into custody during the investigation.
The Patna High Court subsequently granted him bail in March this year. However, the matter reached the apex court through a plea challenging the relief granted to the legislator and seeking cancellation of his bail.
During Friday's hearing, the Supreme Court directed Singh to surrender before the appropriate authorities by December 1. The bench also instructed the Bihar Police to complete the investigation within four months.
The court posted the matter for further hearing after four months, when the progress of the investigation is expected to be considered.
The development comes shortly after the Janata Dal (United) expelled Anant Singh and former legislator Neelam Devi from the party for six years over alleged anti-party activities.
Singh represented the Mokama Assembly constituency in Bihar and has been a prominent political figure in the state. His expulsion marked a significant development in the party's relationship with the former legislator.
The Supreme Court's latest direction puts Singh under fresh legal pressure in the murder case, even as the investigation continues. The Bihar Police will now have to complete its probe within the timeframe stipulated by the apex court.
The next hearing, scheduled after four months, is expected to take up the matter further.
