SC collegium approves new judges in five HCs

The Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice B.R. Gavai, has given the green light to new appointments and confirmations in five high courts, approving the elevation of both advocates and judicial officers. The three-member body, which also includes Justices Surya Kant and Vikram Nath, passed five separate resolutions in a meeting on Monday to recommend these changes.

In Himachal Pradesh, two senior advocates, Jiya Lal Bhardwaj and Romesh Verma, were approved for elevation as judges. Meanwhile, in Karnataka, three judicial officers - Geetha Kadaba Bharatharaja Setty, Muralidhara Pai Borkatte, and Tyagaraja Narayan Inavally - were cleared for elevation. Additionally, Justice Kurubarahalli Venkataramareddy Aravind, currently serving as an additional judge, was confirmed as a permanent judge of the Karnataka High Court.

The Tripura High Court also saw a confirmation, with Justice Biswajit Palit being made a permanent judge after serving as an additional judge. In the Madras High Court, the collegium recommended that Justice N. Senthilkumar and Justice G. Arul Murugan, both additional judges, be confirmed as permanent judges.

These appointments reflect the ongoing efforts to strengthen the judiciary by recognizing the experience and service of both advocates and judicial officers, ensuring that capable individuals continue to contribute to the country’s justice system.
