
Savitri Thakur to lead Indian delegation at UN social development meet
Minister of State for Women and Child Development Smt. Savitri Thakur will visit New York to lead the Indian delegation at the 64th session of the United Nations Commission for Social Development (CSocD) , scheduled to be held at the UN Headquarters.
The Commission for Social Development, a functional body of the UN’s Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), works to advance inclusive and equitable social development across the world. It focuses on key issues such as poverty alleviation, social protection, employment generation and the welfare of vulnerable sections of society.
The annual session serves as an important global forum where Member States assess progress, exchange experiences and share best practices in social policy and welfare initiatives. Discussions at the Commission also contribute to shaping international strategies aligned with the UN’s sustainable development agenda .
India’s participation in the 64th session underlines its continued engagement with multilateral platforms and its commitment to constructive dialogue on global social development priorities. The visit is also expected to facilitate interactions with UN agencies and representatives of other countries , strengthening cooperation on issues related to social inclusion and welfare.
