‘Sarke Chunar’ Row: Nora Fatehi Apologises Before NCW, Pledges Support for Orphan Girls
Actor National Commission for Women on Thursday heard the controversy linked to the song “Sarke Chunar” from the film KD: The Devil , during which actor Nora Fatehi appeared before the Commission , submitted a written apology , and reiterated that there was no intention to offend anyone .
The NCW had earlier issued summons to several artists, including Fatehi, after taking suo motu cognisance of media reports alleging obscene and objectionable content in the song, which had sparked widespread backlash and was later removed from YouTube in its Hindi version following criticism.
Speaking after her appearance, Fatehi said she had been placed in a situation beyond her control but accepted her responsibility as a public artist . She maintained that her involvement was limited to performance and that she respects the sensitivity of public sentiment.
“I definitely apologise. There was no intention to hurt anyone. I have submitted everything in writing,” she said, adding that the Commission was “kind and supportive” during the proceedings.
Fatehi also reiterated her earlier clarification that she had originally shot only for the Kannada version of the song and was not fully aware of the Hindi adaptation’s final presentation, a point she had raised during earlier controversy discussions when the matter escalated to public and institutional scrutiny.
The controversy surrounding “Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke” had intensified after allegations of suggestive visuals and lyrics , prompting regulatory attention and broader debates on creative responsibility. Reports also noted that the issue had drawn strong public reactions online before reaching formal hearings.
In a parallel development linked to the same case, actor Sanjay Dutt , who was also summoned earlier, had already appeared before the Commission and submitted a written apology along with a commitment to sponsor education for tribal girl children , setting a precedent for social responsibility responses in the case.
Fatehi, meanwhile, announced a similar social initiative, stating her decision to support the education of orphan girls , describing it as a way to give back to society after the controversy.
The song belongs to the Kannada film KD: The Devil , which has been dubbed in multiple languages, and the row has since become one of the most discussed entertainment controversies involving NCW intervention in recent months.
